Dirk Brossé
Millennium Overture
for Symphony Orchestra
1999
7’30”
DESCRIPTION
Brossé opens his ‘Millennium Overture’ with triumphant brass and hopeful melodic lines. This is the era of great expectations ruled by the most significant feature of the 21th century: speed in communication. Musical themes are passed on from one musician to another like e-mails sent around the world. In this whirlpool of human activities however, humanity threatens to get lost. That’s when the composer decides to give them back its natural flow and letting the heartbeat of mankind come to rest and asking the audience to find it in their heart to think for a moment of those people who are less fortunate. This mutual understanding builds up to an orchestral climax in which all forces join hands.
